Books and articles that are not available in the Hasselt University library and/or cannot be accessed electronically can be requested at other libraries.
There is a different procedure for members of staff and emeriti who still work at the university on the one hand and students/external readers/retired emeriti on the other.
Members of staff
Members of staff and emeriti who still work at the university can quickly and easily submit their request for documents electronically. The costs are paid internally by means of a credit code.
Requesting a book
Consult the library catalogue (containing the UHasselt collection and those of several other libraries); on the document description of the required book you will find the (red) button "Document Request". Enter your UHasselt user name and password and click "Confirm request".
Requesting an article
Consult the UHasselt Discovery Service or the database of your choice and verify if the document is available electronically. If the document is not available, a menu with alternatives is given. Select the button "Request via Interlibrary Loan", enter your UHasselt user name and password and click "Confirm request".
If the required document is not available in the library catalogue or one of the databases, you can fill in the request form that is electronically available at My library (cf. link 'Document Requests').
Students/external readers/retired emeriti
Students/external readers/retired emeriti are not able to submit their document requests electronically, but are required to order wanted items (on advance payment) at the library desk.
The ILL request forms (book (doc) – article (doc)) may be downloaded and filled in in advance, but can also be requested at the library desk.
Delivery and feedback
The library will send you an email as soon as the requested books have arrived. Documents in electronic form will be sent directly to your mailbox.
In Belgium, the standard price for interlibrary loan requests is € 7,00 for an article up to 30 pages (€ 0,10 per additional page) and € 8,50 for a book per completed request. Students receive a discount and external readers pay a service charge. See below.
Members of staff/emeriti
If the publication is not available in the network of Belgian libraries, the library places an international interlibrary loan request. The cost is usually higher and will be presented to the applicant before the order is placed if it is 20% higher than the standard price for interlibrary loan requests.
Strict lending periods apply to books that are borrowed on interlibrary loan. Furthermore, the lending library has the right to request an early return of the items, if reserved by one of their own readers. Copies (in paper or digital scan), however, remain property of the applicant at all times.
When violating the interlibrary loan period, users are excluded immediately from the entire interlibrary loan service for a period of 2 weeks after the last item on interlibrary loan is returned.
More information on this service can be obtained with Leen Braeken (tel. 011/26.81.29).
