Module 2: How to formulate a good search query?

You are here

2.3. Exact word combination (string search)

If you wish to find only search results that contain the entered search terms in that exact order, enclose your search terms in "double quotation marks". That way irrelevant search results are avoided.

Example:

  • Martin Luther King --> shows search results on Martin Luther King (20th century), but also on Martin Luther (16th century) in combination with a certain king.
  • "Martin Luther King" --> shows only search results on Martin Luther King (20th century).
  • "Martin Luther" NOT "Martin Luther King" --> shows only search results on Martin Luther (16th century), but not on Martin Luther King (20th century).
