BALaT (Belgian Art Links and Tools)

With BALaT you can search

  • the online photo library of the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK) with more than 750,000 negatives of all aspects of Belgium's artistic heritage: fine arts, artistic crafts, architecture, archaeology and landscapes;
  • the library of the KIK: 80,000 books and articles on art history, conservation-restoration, and scientific analysis. All documents (including journal articles) are indexed via a specialised thesaurus;
  • the Dictionnaire des peintres belges du XIVe siècle à nos jours depuis les premiers maîtres des anciens Pays-Bas méridionaux et de la principauté de Liège jusqu'aux artistes contemporains with biographies of some 6300 artists;
  • a list includes nearly 200,000 artists, craftsmen, researchers, authors of publications, conservators-restorers, photographers, collectors, historical or fictional characters depicted in works of art, museums, churches, learned societies, etc.

BASE

BASE is one of the world's most voluminous search engines especially for academic open access web resources. BASE is operated by Bielefeld University Library and provides more than 120 million documents from more than 6.000 sources. You can access the full texts of about 60% of the indexed documents for free.

Beeldbank Onroerend Erfgoed Vlaanderen (Image Bank Immovable Heritage Flanders)

The image bank contains more than 300,000 images of archaeological, architectural, landscape, and sailing heritage, including those illustrating the Inventory of Immovable Heritage. You will find both recent photos and older digitised analogue photos. Most of the images can be freely reused. With each image is stated whether you may reuse it and under what licence.

BEL-FIRST (Bureau Van Dijk)

BEL-FIRST contains comprehensive information on companies in Belgium and Luxembourg. You can use it to research individual companies, search for companies with specific profiles and for analysis. It allows you to evaluate companies in detail, including peer group comparisons and get an insight into a specific sector.

Belga.press (formerly GoPress Academic) is a digital press database offering content all Belgian news outlets. You can consult newspaper articles and magazines 48 hours after the date of publication. Most media brands offer access to articles from the 1990s onwards; you can page through complete issues published after circa 2010.

The Belgian Monitor is the official publication of the Belgian state in which laws, royal decrees, decrees, ordinances, the establishment of many associations, etc. are published. The publication is provided by the Federal Department of Justice. Since June 3, 1997, the Belgian Monitor is available online.

Bibliotheek Onroerend Erfgoed Vlaanderen (Library Immovable Heritage Flanders)

The library collection has more than 130,000 works on immovable heritage in the broad sense of the word, mainly architectural, archaeological, landscape, sailing, and maritime heritage in Flanders and Europe, as well as on supporting natural sciences and conservation and restoration. This also includes a heritage collection with more than 5,000 antiquarian works, including architectural journals of the 19th and 20th centuries. You can search the catalogue by a combination of an author's name and a year, or by a combination of a journal or series name and a volume or volume number. You can also use one or more keywords. However, the words must be separated by a comma.

Students, lecturers and researchers at UHasselt can request scans of articles/chapters of items from the Flanders Immovable Heritage Library collection via e-mail. You can compile a list via the catalogue's book basket and then request the scans via: bib@onroerenderfgoed.be.
